After departing Agra at 8am we hit the road, or rather the road hit us and we started for Jaipur a distance of about 125 miles. Being a passenger in a car in India is quite frankly an experience that will remain for a long time. If the stray dogs don't slow you down then the cows will, if the water buffaloes don't get you then the camels or their mates the monkeys have a go. If they fail then it is the cars, motor bikes buses driving on the wrong side of the road that get in the way! Oh yes and the man praying in the middle of the road. His prayers were obviously working as he was still alive when we went past! First stop was an abandoned palace (Fakhitapur...something like that.... almost rude!) It was an amazing sight and well worth it. Back in the car and more life risking miles to visit one of the largest stepwells in India (Chand Boroas).....really interesting....lots of bats although Gillian didn't go into that particular room (K was exploring!). The final stop was off the beaten track at an abandoned shrine to the monkey gods. This was not a normal tourist place and it was quite frankly well astounding. It was cut into a mountain and we felt we could have been on an
Indiana Jones film set......yes and there was a snake charmer and like Indie, Gillian hates snakes. Arrived at our hotel around 4.30. Not a typical Young family hotel as it is more of a boutique hotel and a former palace of a Raj.
