As you know
we have in the past been regular cruisers so reckon we are pretty good judges
of cruises. How was this one? Sort of OK!
We covered
over 5000 miles which is a long way and were on the ship for 18 days, the
longest we have ever been on a ship.
The ship ‘Radiance
of the Seas’ is a perfect ship for seeing the sights as there is plenty of
glass and therefore the ship is light and airy. At 90,000 tonnes the ship is
big enough but not too big. Our cabin on Deck 10 was in a great position as it
was close to all the key places on the ship.
The food in
the dining room was excellent and there was absolutely no need to visit the
speciality restaurants. We had a good table of dinner mates, apart from one
Australian lady who was quite possibly one of the rudest passengers we’ve had
the displeasure to meet. She had a nice husband (small and thin) nice brother
but picture Miss Piggy and you’re coming close. She also thought she was highly
intelligent but alas she was not. Speaking of intelligence we had the pleasure
of Paul (and Gail) from Liverpool. Not only did Paul have a typical scouse
sense of humour, he was possibly the most intelligent man we had ever met. He
won the nightly quiz on his own. Any subject from Bolshoi to the Beatles he
knew!
The ports
of call were OK……we started in Perth which is a great place but also the most
expensive place in the World. The weather was wonderful and we thought we were
set fair. We were wrong! For the next few days we sailed at the same speed as a
depression and therefore had the same cool weather as we visited some of the
lesser known and smaller ports.
The weather
cheered up for Adelaide and Melbourne which were great but as we had expected
the weather from then on into Tasmania and New Zealand was very cool and windy
and the sea days were not the most pleasant.
The scenery
in the New Zealand fjords was wonderful and the captain did a great job of
getting close to the shore when at times it seemed we must run aground.
The final
run into Sydney saw the weather marginally improve but it still wasn’t quite
the weather we, nor the captain had expected.
The arrival
in Sydney was spectacular and it must rank as one of the most iconic ports to
arrive and leave.
Did we
enjoy the cruise. Yes! It could have been warmer but we saw lots of places and definitely
had some laughs along the way!
