Malaysia

We found KL to be a very safe and clean City.

Sure we were staying at a swanky hotel but out on our trips people seemed genuinely friendly. We certainly didn’t experience the poverty associated with some of the other countries we have been to, but no doubt it is there we were just protected from it.

It does seem that the transportation system is ‘joined up’ unlike the UK. We are discussing the future high speed rail-link to Birmingham that will save 10 minutes on a 90 minute journey but a rail route that doesn’t link to an airport. The Central station at KL has all the mass transit trains, the airport train and international train and all buses that all link up AT THE SAME PLACE. I guess this is too obvious for British politicians!

The train ride from KL to Singapore showed another side. We had expected a train link from these two countries to be very efficient and leading edge. It was the complete opposite! A really old train, no announcements, squatting toilets, no food trolley and a train that stopped in the middle of nowhere at very frequent intervals!

We did see poverty although not to the same extent as we had seen in places like India. We saw thousands and thousands of palm trees though!

Malaysia seems like a place that has tremendous opportunities!
