Indiana Jones territory

We were up early to beat the crowds and it was worth it....although we have very sore feet! We walked approx 2.5 miles to the start of a steep trail to take us up into the mountains as there were some sights only for those prepared to put in some effort!
Here is Gillian at the start of the trail. It was around 8.45 at this point and we'd already been walking for just over an hour.
As you  can see.....there was no one else mad enough to be up at this hour!

The walk was really interesting with a number of hazards and nearly 1000 steps taking about 2.5 hours to reach the top. There were a few people on the trek...about 4! Given Gillian's knee she did a great job!

We climbed and climbed.

Seeing different tombs and caves on the way that most tourists just wouldn't find.

At the top, completely cut into the rock, how and why are difficult to comprehend was this huge and beautiful building. We were amazed and the walk was certainly worth it!

The journey down was fun too!

Tonight is our last night in Petra and we are going to learn how to cook Jordanian food as the restaurant we are going to is 'cook yourself!'
