Ocean Road Apollo Bay to Warranambool

We found out that the ‘red sea’ we had seen yesterday  was some weird strain of algae and has not been seen before. It was a main story on the news and there were pictures exactly as posted on the blog on the evening news!

We got up and left the hotel by 815am with the weather forecast predicting record high temperatures, up to 100degrees!  Our first stop was ‘Maits Rest’ which was an exquisite walk through the forest. We were the only ones there and it was brilliant.

Then on to Cape Otway Lighthouse, en-route we saw so many koalas it was amazing, the trees were just covered in them! The final stop was Triplet Falls, another long walk into the forest where we were the only people there!
After a well-earned ice cream we continued our drive along the ‘shipwreck coast’, the scenery was stunning.

The Twelve Apostles, which is the icon of the ‘Great Ocean Road’ was pretty busy with tour buses and  unfortunately some pesky  little flies!  As we moved down the coast the scenery was just as dramatic but there were no longer tourists so we had the views to ourselves.

The Great Ocean Road should change its name to the ‘Fantastic and Unbelievable Ocean and Rainforest Road’ but we guess that’s just too long! Whilst the ‘12 Apostles’ is what the road is known for, there is so much more to see and do. If you are coming to this part of the world, it’s a MUST DO!
