We are staying in North Carolina and one of the richest families in the USA, the Vanderbilts built a small shack here!
We were staying in a motel just a few minutes from the property and therefore we were there quite early.
You drive through beautiful grounds before arriving at the parking lot and then it was either a shuttle bus or in our case an 8 minute walk to the property.
The weather was perfect, the showers that had been on the weather forecast (the red thing under Gillian's arm!) never happened and it was warm and sunny most of the day!
We walked around many of the rooms although unfortunately no photography was allowed.
After having a self-guided tour around the house with an excellent phone device we wandered around the gardens which were very pretty.
The property also produces its own wine so went on a short tour of the production facilities before embarking on some wine tasting!
In the late afternoon having left the estate we walked around Ashville which was very 'new age'...whatever that means!
